What Does a Disney Travel Agent Actually Do Every Day?

Most recruiting content for travel agencies will tell you about the support structure. The training. The community. The tools.

What it rarely tells you is what a Disney Travel Agent does on the daily.

I'm Kayla LeClerc, owner of Whimsical Wishes Travel Concierge, a concierge-level family travel agency. My co-owner is Melissa Ritrivi. We built this agency the way we did because we'd both seen what the alternative looks like — and we didn't want to run that agency.

Here's what a week on our team actually looks like.

What Does a Disney Travel Agent Do Every Day?

No two days look exactly alike. It's just the nature of this work, and part of what makes it so good.

What you can count on is a rhythm. A structure that holds the week together without telling you what to do with every hour of it, because our advisors are independent contractors and they run their own businesses. The structure exists to make sure nobody is ever flying blind.

Monday: The Memo Lands

Every Monday, a memo goes out to the full team. It covers what's happening in the agency, upcoming supplier events, training opportunities, and anything we think will help advisors move their businesses forward that week.

This is one of the ways we make sure that being part of a small, fully remote team doesn't mean being alone in it. You're not checking a generic newsfeed for industry updates. You're getting a weekly letter from the people running this agency — written for your specific business, not for some hypothetical travel agent.

Friday: The Content Kit

Every Friday, a social media content kit goes out. Ideas, inspiration, frameworks — ready to use for the week ahead.

This matters more than it sounds. Staying visible to your network is one of the most important things an advisor can do, especially in the early months. But most advisors also don't have a marketing team. They're planning family vacations by day and trying to come up with something to post by night. The content kit means you're never staring at a blank screen at 9 PM trying to think of something to say about Disney.

In Between: The Work, and the Team

Between Monday and Friday is the actual work — the client conversations, the proposals, the research that turns a good trip into a memorable one.

And in between all of that is the team. In our private community, advisors share wins, talk through challenges, ask for advice from each other, and discuss news and updates — whether they're serious or just interesting. Someone lands a big booking and the team celebrates it. Someone runs into a situation they've never handled before and asks how others have navigated it. Someone catches a piece of Disney news before anyone else and drops it in the channel.

That kind of shared knowledge is worth a lot. And it only exists because the people in this agency genuinely like and trust each other.

Bi-Weekly: The Huddle

Once or twice a month, the whole team gets on Zoom for a Huddle. These are real, substantive sessions — not just check-ins. We share what's working. We bring in suppliers. We answer questions from the team. We talk about what's changing in the industry and what it means for how we work.

Supplier trainings come through regularly outside the Huddles too, so there's always something new to learn and someone to learn it from.

What Would Surprise You

If you're coming from a traditional job, the thing that catches people off guard isn't the workload or the commission structure. It's that they're known here.

Not as a number. Not as a sales figure. As a person — with a name, a goal, a client base they're building, a life they're trying to fit this business into. Melissa knows every advisor by name, by what they're working on, by what they're trying to figure out. That's not an accident. It's how she runs this side of the agency.

Here's how two of our advisors put it:

"Joining Whimsical Wishes has been a great decision to start my career as a travel advisor. From day one, I've felt embraced by a team that radiates positivity, collaboration, and genuine passion for what we do. The owners are deeply invested in the success of every independent contractor." — Julie C., advisor since 2021

"I think one of the hallmarks of our ownership team is their direct involvement in our training and ongoing support. I feel like any time I have a question, they are able to respond quickly and provide support. WWTC is also a great team to work on and everyone shares tips and helps each other out, which in turn makes us all more successful." — Derek G., advisor since 2023

The support isn't theoretical. It shows up when something is hard. And the things that are hard in this business — a client crisis on a Sunday night, a booking that needs to be fixed fast, a situation you've never encountered before — those are exactly when it matters.

Your First Two Weeks: Runway to Ready

When a new advisor joins the team, they enter Runway to Ready — our structured two-week onboarding program. It's built to take you from "I just joined" to ready to work, with a real path and two owners who are genuinely invested in getting you there.

By the end of Runway to Ready, your business is set up and running — your tools, your systems, and the foundation of how you talk about what you do. You know exactly who you serve, and you're ready to start real travel conversations.

From there, the work begins: turning inquiries into bookings, building deep knowledge of your core destinations, and learning how to serve a family at the level we hold ourselves to. The team is with you through all of it.

Why People Join — and Why They Stay

People come to Whimsical Wishes for a lot of reasons. They love Disney. They've been planning trips for family and friends for years and realized at some point that they're very good at it. They want to build something that's theirs. They're ready to be paid for something they've been doing for free.

What keeps them here is different.

They stay because this team is real. Because the support isn't promised in a sales pitch and then missing when you need it. Because Melissa will know your name and your goal before you've been here a month. Because the advisors on this team have figured out that helping each other is not a zero-sum game — it makes all of them better.

That's what this business becomes when you show up for it. And that's what we're here to help you build.

Frequently Asked Questions About Working at Whimsical Wishes

What does a typical week look like for a Whimsical Wishes travel advisor? Every week starts with a Monday memo covering agency news, upcoming events, and resources to help advisors move their businesses forward. Every Friday, a social media content kit goes out so advisors aren't starting from scratch on what to post. In between: client conversations, proposals, research, and an active team community where advisors share wins, ask questions, and support each other. Once or twice a month, the whole team meets on Zoom for a Huddle.

How much support do Whimsical Wishes advisors actually get? More than most agencies offer — and the difference is that ours is specific, not theoretical. You get a structured 90-day onboarding program, weekly communication from the owners, an active team community, bi-weekly Huddles, and regular supplier trainings. When something goes wrong — and in this business, things go wrong — there are two real people at the top of this agency whose contact information you'll have before you start.

Do Whimsical Wishes advisors work together or independently? Both. Advisors are independent contractors and run their own client businesses. But they operate inside an active team — sharing knowledge, celebrating wins, asking each other questions, and learning from each other's experience. The team community runs throughout the week. Nobody is figuring things out in isolation.

What is Runway to Ready? Runway to Ready is our structured two-week onboarding program for new advisors. By the end of it, your business foundation is in place — tools, systems, and clarity on who you serve. You're ready to start real travel conversations, with the full team community and weekly resources behind you from day one.

What makes Whimsical Wishes different from other host agencies? A few things we'd point to: we're Disney EarMarked and Universal U-Preferred with real depth in both. Our advisors have our cell phone numbers before they sign anything. Our onboarding program is built by us, not assembled from supplier content. And the culture here is one where advisors are known — not as numbers or sales figures, but as people with names and goals and businesses worth investing in. That's not something you can manufacture. It's either true of an agency or it isn't.

How do I know if Whimsical Wishes is the right fit for me? Read everything you can find about how we work and what we value — including this post. Then reach out. We'll have a real conversation, answer your questions honestly, and tell you if we think you're a fit. We're not looking to fill seats. We're looking for people who are serious about building something, who show up consistently, and who genuinely care about the families they'll be serving. If that's you, we'd love to talk.
