What's the Right Age for Your Child's First Walt Disney World Trip?

There's a question I hear from families all the time, and it never gets old: What's the right age for my child's first Walt Disney World trip?

The honest answer? There isn't one.
Every family is different, and the "right" age has less to do with a number and more to do with your kids, your goals, and where you are as a family right now.
Rather than giving you a generic answer, I want to walk you through the questions I actually ask my own clients when they're trying to figure this out.
Have you traveled with your kids before?
Some children are natural travelers — go-with-the-flow, happy in new environments, unfazed by a packed day. Others need more routine and predictability to feel secure.
One of the most magical Disney trips I've ever personally taken was when my daughter was just three months old. She was perfectly content being worn in a carrier, riding along on whatever we did. If your little one thrives on adventure, age matters a lot less than you might think.
What are you hoping to get out of this trip?
This question matters more than most parents expect. If your goal is to create a meaningful family experience — to be together, to see the wonder on your kids' faces, to slow down and be present — then there's no wrong age.
Young children may not carry specific memories into adulthood, but you will. And those early years have a kind of magic that's impossible to replicate later.
How often do you realistically expect to visit?
If Walt Disney World is a once-in-a-decade trip for your family, the pressure to "do it all" is real and understandable. But if you anticipate going back in a few years, you can take the trip for exactly what it is right now — not what you wish it could be.
Your kids don't have to be tall enough for every ride or old enough for every experience. That's what next time is for.

How do you feel about it?
This one often gets overlooked, but it's important. You know your family better than anyone. Theme parks with young children can be wonderful and chaotic in equal measure, and there's no shame in deciding the timing isn't right yet.
Trust your gut. If it feels like too much, it probably is — and that's okay. Disney will still be there.
The truth is, families have incredible Disney trips with infants, toddlers, teenagers, and every age in between. The "right" trip is the one that fits your family in this season of life.
If you've already taken your first Walt Disney World trip, I'd love to hear about it — how old were your kids, and what was the experience like? And if you're still trying to figure out the timing, I'm always happy to talk it through. That's exactly what I'm here for.
